I am nearly 62. I went for an eye test when I was 60. The optician did not like what he found, and asked me to ask my GP to refer me to opthalmology at Queens Hospital, Burton. The opthalmologist wanted to look at the condition of the muscles behind my left eye and I had a scan. This showed unexpected marks in my brain and she asked for a neurologist in Derby to look at the scans. The neurologist I saw wanted to eliminate the possibility of myasthenia, after he had asked me a lot of (to me) surprising questions, with a blood test for AchR antibodies. This came back borderline positive so he suggested Mestinon. I now take this 4 times a day, prescribed by my GP. I also have EC peppermint oil to take when necessary, as I reacted badly to the Mestinon. I have now seen a different neurologist at Derby who tells me MG is very rare and I shouldn't worry about the marks in my brain as they are probably blood clots caused by high blood pressure. I have prisms on my glasses to eliminate the double vision. I am teaching full time but have had to give up my second job as a MORI interviewer because I get so tired and fell over twice whilst working!
