I am a 54-year-old, bald male with the physique of a pan of lard and the strength of a kitten. You might think that I haven’t much going for me, but I have a beautiful blond wife who is very supportive and I am very happy. Our children are all grown and self-sufficient. I have always led a very active life, teaching engineering in colleges and for training organisations and even self-employed. When I was not doing that I was a Retained Fire-fighter. I responded to more than six thousand calls during my career. All that is over now. After a couple of years of feeling very unwell, I was diagnosed with MG in May 2006. Soon after I moved from the UK to the Irish Republic, initially returning to the UK for follow up appointments with the Neurologist. I am still reasonably active, although frustrated by my inability to do things that I once found easy. Counting my blessings, we have a lovely home in the most beautiful part of the world. My wife and I have a couple of dogs that we walk on the beach when I'm up to it. We also have a couple of horses and a carriage, which I drive on our quiet country lanes. An idyllic life despite all the symptoms of this cursed diseas. I am presently taking: Mestinon-Pyridostigmine 60mg every 3 hours (420mg/day). Prednisolone 15mg/day. Imuran 25mg/day. Ramipril 5mg/day. Simvostatin 20mg/day. Thyroxine 150mg/day. Asprin 75mg/day. Lansoprazole 30mg/day and a calcium tablet.
