User Profile
i am 58 years old, married with 2 grown daughters. Soon to be a Nanna on Dec 23rd 2009 (can't wait). Was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, had surgery and reconstruction for that. Husband also had prostate cancer the year before me (we like to do things together! - but you can take things too far)
Diagnosed in Feb 2009 with bulbar MG, symptoms were that I slurred my speech, sounded a bit like Jonathon Ross on valium, (lots of valium) and double vision, droopy eyelids and thats about all- suprising to my neurologist cause I have a high antibody count. I take 30mg Mestinon 3 x daily and this has supressed what few symptoms I had. Have occasional tummy cramps and my bladder seems to have forgotton what waiting means!
High point - I am a college lecturer (Biology and Health studies) and in one respect find MG fascinating. I'm also a Clinical Reflexologist and massage therapist and continue to work at both occupations.
Low point - being told on applying for travel insurance that as I had already had one terminal illness (cancer) I couldn't add another (MG) - as I am now cancer free & was never terminal and understood MG wasn't automatically a terminal diagnosis I was a bit confused - (confused but still alive) but the telesales girl was not to be swayed. (The AA covered me for both , so I bought my insurance from them).
Sorry to be long winded, but thats a lecturer for you!
