I just don't get it ! I have tried to read it a few times but my eyes can't manage it. Too many lines and patterns. I tried to register and it was asking for a membership #. What does that mean ? Only members are allowed to register? Is anyone else having problems ? Jane

you do not need to put in the membership number if you do not have one, just put in your name, address etc.
take into account that if you do not want to go under your real name you have to put your pseusoname there and not your real one. your e-mail address will not be given to anyone, so you can use your e-mail address.

Thanks Alice and Peter, I am getting there now I think. I think it may be a slight dyslexia type problem where the grey writing on blue - and then the change to white for the reply - seems hard for my eyes to 'see'. This is most likely an independent problem to CMS. Is there a button to change the background colours ? This forum was so clear with its all white appearance.
Thanks, Jane

Hi Jane,
This is a favourite hobby horse of mine. When I developed cataracts and realised I couldn't read most magazines because of the fancy use of colours.
It is easy for 'normal' people to forget these sorts of things, I have found - form over function again!! although I'm sure that was not the intent.

Jane,
I had the same problem at first, changing colors and flickering lights are a major problem for me.
but, I somehow found the way to get used to it. overall the colors are not too bright, and the brightness of my screen is on the low side any how.
I think that being aware of it, I just go slower from one color to the other, giving my eyes time to adjust.
my rehab physician once said to me that looking at me, it seems that I am planning every movement. and anticipating what I can or can't do. and this is probably what makes some people think that I am faking it.
guess that's a price you have to pay for finding the way to adjust to your limitations.

Hi there - re mix of colours used for coveying info (writing)
unfortunately it seems that most Internet Designers are A young - B not educated in 'use of colours' - C have good colour perception - D totaly unaware of the effects of both 'illness' and/or 'Colour Blindness' - on the ability to see any Writing Well enough when colours are wrongly used together
When TV first went Colour various charts were researched and issued to Set Designers etc to enable the Electronic TV System to read the differences between colours - and so the 'viewer' to appreciate the Designers designs and not become a miss match.
Well TV managed it ony to find that Internet Designers then came along and apparently do not appreciate the problems involved in the use of colours in the Good Design of Web Sites etc etc.
Lots and Lots of us men are partially colour blind and the incorrect mix of Colours can make life very difficult for us.
Likewise any Designer that has not been tested for Colour Vision can see things that others can-not.
Caution and Prudence in choice of colour mix is a Virtue if not an essential in a good effective design
After all getting the 'message cross' is the aim

Alice, how do you manage if you have visual problems to spend as long on this forum as you do? I’m still attempting to get correctly set up on the new one. I got one account but it gives out my surname which I don’t want to do and can’t find out how to stop it. I see most people now have their surnames apart from an expert like you who’s just got one name. The FAQ doesn’t seem to answer this and because I can only do on line in short spells it is becoming rather a hurdle. I’m now setting up another account but can’t see how to delete the first one but the automatic email hasn’t come. So I keep giving up and going back to this one. Lynette

Hi Lynette
It took me a while to figure it out too. When you register, when it asks for your name just put your chosen user name in the first name place and a full stop in the last name part.
That's what I did.
Hope it works for you

Lynette,
you ask-"how do you manage if you have visual problems to spend as long on this forum as you do?"
honestly, I am not sure I know the answer to that. I think it is what I said. just being very stubborn, and not giving up on doing what I want, and finding innovative ways to do it.
I also think that "movement notations" may have helped.
many times I don't look at what I am writing, and also take breaks in between (when you read it, you can't know how long it took me to write it).
I also invested a lot of time, in finding the optimal screen that is big enough, but not too big (so I don't have to move my eyes too much).
not being able to read was one of the worst things for me (after not being able to breath), so I put a lot of effort in finding how to do it.
I can't say if it is good or not, this is just me. I know I paid an enormous price for this, because it took the physicians involved in my care, and those around me, a very long time to understand how ill I really am. some still don't.
At the same time, my functional level is way above what would be expected. Sort of a paradox I am constantly living with.

Peter, this subject is not in the FAQ`s nor in the
help section, i have asked for a new password 3 times and it say one has been sent iam still waiting,
i know it is only two or three of us, but how many
can not use this forum and wish to regester with the
new one and can not.The new forum looks nice but i
think that it may be a bit confusing on times on a
brain dead day but we must take a step forward. ---------- Tony

On three occasions I have had a problem with logging in. Each time I've sent a report via the form on the Website Help page but have heard nothing back at all. Having read Peter's post on the new forum which suggests that answers should be very quick during working hours, I'm wondering if there is a problem with the sending/receiving of mails via the Help facility.

Peter: I had no problem registering and can log on and post with no trouble except that on three occasions something wierd has happened. I apologise if I've been less than clear, for me the actual registration process was perfectly OK. I was simply a bit surprised that I hadn't had any reaction to my 3 reports.

Tony - what did you do to get the password? Did you keep having new attempts to register? I have had one attempt and one Help message sent as I thought it may confuse too much to repeat. Shall I keep repeating ? Bevj, I have not received a response to my report either.
