Hi All

As most of you know it has been hot here in the uk.I have been getting pins and needles in my hands right mainly and up the arm, i have been diagnosed with rhaynards symdrome 5 years ago but that is te cold that sets that off.

I am waiting to see a MG consultant in august but was wondering if this was a MG thing or just down to the heat and maybe my fbromyalgia i do have a large numb patch on my left hip too steadly growing and that gets pns and needles around the edge of the numb patch theey have ruled out MS and my GP says fibromyalgia does not cause permanant numb patches. Its tough waiting i dont see the consultant till the 24 th of august its up at the natonal in london queens square.

any thoughts??

Hi Sam

Is there any chance these things could be connected to your back problems (I think you have mentioned a bad back previously)?? Certainly the numbness in the leg sounds like your back to me. A nerve could be damaged from a slipped disc, I think you should speak to your doctor about that possibility. If there is nerve damage it needs to be sorted sooner rather than later.

Can't help with whether it is MG related, sorry. I have certainly been suffering in this weather, but it's just a worsening of the usual symptoms rather than any new ones (thankfully).

I hope you're soon feeling better.

Thanks tina

How are you coping in this weather tough isnt it.

I have had a recent mri of my brain and cervical bt of my neck and it was clear but maybe is it further down and i need a closer look at the back i am gong to see a neuromuscular consultant soon maybe he will sort it out i feel i am forever going to the dr and not gettng very far. I have had problems with my back and neck due to a horse riding accident and later on a car crash so this could be an old problem. i used to go to a osteopath i might go back i am having hydrotherapy at the moment to build my core muscles up to help my back.

Do your eyes get heavy in the heat and muscles fatiuged more then usual mine do.

Sam

This heat is driving me mad, it's awful. My face is worst affected but my whole body is like a sack of spuds, I'd say my mouth and swallowing are worse than my eyelids but my vision is gradually getting worse. I get regular short bouts of blurry/slight double vision, this seems to be happening on a more constant basis. Do you get any vision problems? This started mildly about a month ago and has gradually got worse, god only know what will happen next. I'm keeping on going to work though, although I have dropped a few hours. I'm fortunate to have a job sat at a desk and I have air con, so i'm probably better there than at home. I wish I had air con at home at the moment.

If I were you I would go back to the osteopath, I know numbness in the leg can be caused by lower back problems and even the pins and needles in the arms may be something to do with you trapping a nerve!! That may not show up on a scan. I've had a terrible time with my back over the past few years due to problems with my posture. When I had a hip replacement last year my posture was jilted the other way and upset once again, so inevitibly my back went into complete spasm last November. It was a week before I could walk and even longer to fully recover, I didn't have numbness, just pain but i believe that numbness can be caused by nerve damage.

My current GP is great, she took one look at my spine and said it is shaped like a snake (curvature or scoliosis I think is the correct term) so it is most likely that I am trapping nerves when doing too much. You're probably right that the riding accident and car crash injuries have something to do with it, mine is caused by a life of one leg shorter than the other. I've had an xray on my back, but never a scan. The xrays show mild arthritis. I think it is highly likely with your accidents that you are in a similar situation.

Another thing, someone told me that a chiropractor was better than an osteopath?? Not sure of the truth in that but I was told that a chiropractor was better qualified. I've only ever been to an osteopath and he was very good so can't really offer an opinion there sorry.

My GP has written to a consultant at Oxford, the chairman gave me his details. I'm hoping to hear soon and keeping everything crossed that I will actually get an appointment. I was getting nowhere with the neurologist I'd been seeing previous. In addition my Orthopaedic Consultant wants to remove a plate from my leg in 6 months but won't do it until this is sorted. It might be a long wait, but let's hope not!! Good luck with your appointment.

Hi tina

The chairman helped me get refered to a consultant in the national hospital thank goodness as i too was not getting anywhere either he is a MG speacilist. I so hope we both get some answers. I have on off blurred vison but always in the heat in summer worse but never constant my eyes droop but only like i am constantly tired all the time only once was it so bad it drooped and obscured my view but never again since. my voice is worse it gets weaker during the day and is raspy and i find it hard to project my voice and singing leaves me breathless and i cant do it for long and used to love singing in church. I guess i will just have to wait the only other thing it could be is limb-girdle dystrophy but i dont think that includes the voice muscles. I am sorry about your leg i sure hope you get to see someone soon so you can go ahead for the op. I dont see mine till the 24 th of august got refered back in May i think.
