Hi,

I was wondering if anybody has had experience of having a bronchoscopy and if there were any complications due to MG? My doctor has recommended one ( for non MG related issues) but I am very worried about going ahead with it , as it involves a local anaesthetic to the throat combined with taking a sedative and having a thin tube inserted in the trachea to look at the lungs. My doctor doesn't have much experience with MG, and has not really dealt with my concerns about it.

Thanks for any info,

Jodie

Hello Jodie,

I don't really know how to answer this question or if it will be of any help to you. I had a bronchoscopy when I was in crisis in hospital, but I was on a ventilator at the time and sedated, I do not have any recollection of the procedure happening to me, only being told later that I had this done. I did have my thymectomy about three weeks after ICU and ventilation, this was obviously done with a general anaesthetic without any ill effects to me and my recovery was very quick. I am sure that all the doctors concerned will be well aware of the MG and the anaesthetist will be looking after you very well. Your neurologist and anaesthetist will be able to explain the procedure to you to put your mind at rest.

Good luck...........
