I have been reading this forum for over a year, but this is my first post. I was diagnosed last year with generalized MG, and have a lot of involvement with my lungs, arms, legs, etc... but have not had the typical ptosis and double vision... I do have droopy eyelids, but it is more like a sleepy look- not closing all the way and being unable to open them.

My question is this. My opthalmologist told me this week that the muscle INSIDE my eye that controls focusing is being effected by the MG, while the muscles that control eye movement look pretty good. It would explain the eyestrain sensations that I have had, as well as the fatigue while reading. Does anyone else have trouble specifically with focusing, rather than movement?

Thanks!

Hi,
Yes! I also, have a problem with focusing. My opthalmologist said the same thing. My eyes are drooping especially when I am tired or try to focus for too long a time. Example: when I watch television or reading my eyes start to get blurry. I have to close my eyes for a short time to rest them then I can read again. I started off with ocular MG and then it went to the rest of my body. I hope this helps. Blessings to you. Fran60

Hi All, i believe the eye lid is one of the weakest muscles, so when you get tired this is the first muscle to be affected, when you read about MG its one of the very first symptoms. i am not an expert but hope that helps. I also have the same problem i also get a twitching eye lid.

Hi, this is the first time of posting. I haven't yet been diagnosed but a blood test has been taken with Myasthenia on the form and am awaiting confirmation but have been reading up on NHS direct and was amazed that all the things listed I have been complaining about for several years but just receive a smile of seeming derision from the Dr's.
It was through my insistance on getting my eyes checked out as it is getting more and more difficult to see as they blur up after seconds in hard concentration and the following comment in that when I raise my eyebrows, then I can see better.
The hospital Opthalmologist took it in hand and ordered the blood test with Myasthenia Gravis. He is arranging an eye lid operation where they pin the eyes lids up, in my case both of them.
My sister had the same op. about 2 years ago and is remarkably improved.
I am so releived to hear of others with the same symptons. It is so difficult to get family to believe me at how exhausted I am all the time.
It doesn't help with all the stress over the past 3 years, 2 brain tumours, brain stent, total knee replacement which is at present going through further investigation as I am in so much pain with this, and of course having recently lost my husband.
But I am still smiling. palval

M.G.problems such as eyes going out of focus is a problem.
However one local hospital doctor to enable a person with this problem put-attached to the side of the eye a magnetic
button which helped with this problem.I think it had a power of
somewere between 2,000-3,000 guass rating.I keeped the newspaper clipping reporting this but I lost it when I got
flooded out.I asked this person using this method,he stated
it worked fine.
For pain killing a magnetic pad is a marvellous pain killing arrangement. It giving almost instant relieve.Giving a lifetime of pain killing of the bodies pain receptors. They are available from your G.P.if not you
can buy one on the WEB.I've had mine for years and it still
kills my joint pain as soon as I put it on.
good luck to all.gerrymur.
